Thousands of Tipra-Motha supporters through a special train have left the capital city Agartala towards New Delhi to organize a demonstration ‘Jantar Mantar’ in support of their demands of ‘Greater Tipraland’.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Tipra-Motha’s chairman and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma said that supporters of Motha in huge numbers including women would demonstrate at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on December 5 and 6 to put forward to the Union Home Ministry a demand for Greater Tipraland in writing.
While, expressing his anger over the death of a CPI(M) supporter Shahid Miah (75) during large-scale violence held at Charilam on November 30th last said that its a shameful incident and people cannot justify the murder of a Indian and demanded immediate police action.
As the state’s assembly elections are to be held in February next , Pradyot called for a total crackdown on political violence and miscreants and has also warned that the situation would otherwise get out of control.
“It is a matter of great shame that we should not justify someone’s death by saying he is a party worker and anyone who died , first he is an Indian citizen and is someone’s father, someone’s brother and husband,” said Pradyot and added that police administration should give free hand to arrest all culprits involved such shameful crime.
A day before the Charilam violence, a Motha supporter also died in GB Hospital, who had suffered injuries by police action during a demonstration and replying to media questions, Pradyot said that they only want police action and rules of law should prevail.
If anyone dies in political violence, all political parties must condemn it and whoever is the perpetrator, police should take the strictest action, said Motha chief and added that if police did not arrest the goons now, the situation would deteriorate and in future the situation would be out of control.
Over the statement of Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on the good law and order situation of the state, Pradyot said that no miscreants involved in political violence were arrested so far and they are continuing their violence by killing people. It should be stopped and police should act as per the law to protect the democratic spirit of the country. He added that irrespective of whether they are from the BJP, CPI(M), Congress or Motha or common people, people do not want anyone to face any violence and political narratives should be changed.
